As a mum to two beautiful girls, I am always trying to lead by example, some days I get it right and other days maybe not so right but one thing I do know is that they are always watching me and always observing how I am acting.
So I am always trying to be the best mum, what I have realised though that watching and observing is no different in business either.
My team are also observing and watching how I lead as I can guarantee yours are watching you too. I want to be the leader that people want to follow. I know that my team need to see me model the behaviours and morals that we have agreed are essential and underpin both our organisation’s success and team values every single day.
Here are 4 ways to lead by example:
- Communicate in the way you want your team to communicate.
- Respond to challenges and conflict in the way you want your team to respond to them.
- Lead with the courage and integrity you want your team to have.
- Treat your employees in the same way you want your team to treat clients.
Your example will have a significant impact on how your team acts and responds. Think about it; what you are silently communicating and endorsing to your team through your behaviour, words and actions?
