The Quiet Power of Vulnerability

Recently, I had the privilege of contributing a deeply personal story to a new book — one that’s very close to my heart.

I can’t share all the exciting details just yet, but throughout the writing process — and especially during conversations with my editor — there was one feeling I kept coming back to: a quiet nervousness about how much of myself I was putting on the page and sharing with others.

But I kept reminding myself: if even one person reads it and feels a little less alone, then every moment of vulnerability will have been worth it.

That reflection sparked something bigger for me about leadership and connection.  Because the truth is, vulnerability isn’t easy. Especially when you’re used to leading teams, managing clients, and showing up in spaces where strength and certainty are often valued above all else. Yet, real leadership — the kind that inspires loyalty, deep trust, and meaningful engagement — doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from having the courage to be human.

When we allow ourselves to be seen — not just the polished versions we present to the world — we create a powerful space for others to do the same. And that matters not just with our teams, but with our clients too. Vulnerability invites connection. It builds beautiful bridges that results, KPIs, and polished presentations alone can’t.

If you’re wondering where to begin, here are a few ways to model vulnerability in your leadership and client relationships:

Modelling Vulnerability with Your Team:

  • Share a moment when you faced a challenge and what you learned.
  • Acknowledge when you don’t have all the answers and invite other ideas.
  • Accept feedback with openness and genuine gratitude (even if you don’t like to hear it).
  • Show authentic emotion — be it excitement, pride, or concern — in a way that’s natural for you.

Modelling Vulnerability with Your Clients:

  • Share the deeper “why” behind what you do and why it matters to you personally.
  • Be upfront about limitations and risks in a way that builds credibility, not fear.
  • If challenges arise, be willing to acknowledge them honestly and work toward solutions together.
  • Celebrate successes warmly and personally — not just as milestones, but as shared achievements.

Choosing vulnerability isn’t about oversharing or losing your professional edge. It’s about leading with heart

And when you do, you build relationships that are stronger, deeper, and far more enduring.

Stay tuned — in the coming weeks, I’ll be able to share more details about our new book and of course my vulnerable journey.

In the meantime, if you’d like to explore more about heart-led leadership and human connection, you can find my other books here.
