Want to know ONE Secret to Great Communication in Leadership?

Communication is a skill I have honed all my working career.  Lately, I have even been running an online workshop on the 10 SECRETS TO GREAT COMMUNICATION IN LEADERSHIP. We are getting hundreds of registrations each workshop so clearly others think and know how important it is. Makes sense too,  relationships cannot grow without communication and in leadership we need relationships.

Today, I want to share the first of those 10 secrets with you.

Secret #1 – Great communicators build relationships first.

When you build relationships with your teams and co-workers, you set yourself up for successful communication. When your team trusts you and develops a deep connection with you, it allows you to be more direct and honest. In turn, this leads to more competent, effective, and productive employees.

Effective communication and effective leadership are closely intertwined. Leaders need to be skilled communicators in countless relationships at the organisational level, in teams, groups and sometimes on a global scale.

You need to think with clarity, express ideas, and share information with a multitude of audiences.

You must learn to handle the rapid flows of information within the organisation, and among customers, teams, partners, and other stakeholders and influencers.

Take the analogy of emergency room staff: nurses and doctors speak the same medical language and there is no room for sloppy communication.

If emergency room team members don’t communicate with precision, people die.

While the stakes aren’t quite as high in a business setting, the repercussions that come from lack of communication and clarification are still extensive. It has a flow-on effect through the rest of the organisation.

We must be clear and concise. Concise means “giving a lot of information clearly and in a few words – brief but comprehensive.”
