So often in business we talk about the importance of having a vision and clear goals. While the benefits are obvious, when business gets busy, it can be easy to loose sight of the bigger picture and focus on your ever-growing daily to-do list.
Not having clear goals and planning ahead can have serious consequences – and costs for you and your business. There is a very good reason Stephen Covey famously penned the words “begin with the end in mind”.
To get ahead, you need to know where you are headed (your vision) and how you will get there (your goals and action steps). If you don’t, you will be trapped in the daily ’working in’ business activities instead of the ‘working on’ activities where you need to be focused as a leader.
In saying this though, your vision and goals aren’t just for you. Your team need to know them as well, even better they also need to set their own goals based on the companies visions.
You as the leader need to know where you are now, where you want to go and what you want to achieve.
