As we head into the Easter break, I always find myself reflecting on the last 16 years of being a mum at this time of year.
My girls lived for it, the Easter egg hunts, big family breakfasts, friends staying the whole weekend, endless swims in the pool… and yes, chocolate before lunch.
But when I really think about it, it wasn’t the chocolate or the traditions they loved most.
It was those simple, unhurried moments of being together, the kind of genuine connection we don’t always make space for in everyday life.
This year, that sense of connection feels even more meaningful.
I’m writing this on my way back from Vietnam after keynoting at the Lifespan Annual Conference – an experience that reminded me, yet again, just how powerful genuine human connection really is. Not just in the work we do with clients, but in the relationships we build within our teams and across our communities.
It was also incredibly special to share the experience with my two girls and spend time with key members of our Performance Advisory Group team. Those moments…outside of formal sessions and structured agendas…were where some of the most meaningful connection happened.
And it reinforced something I’ve been speaking about a lot lately:
Connection isn’t created in transactions. It’s built in shared experiences.
The Easter Reminder We Often Overlook
Easter, for many of us, brings an opportunity to pause and reconnect… with family, friends, and the people who matter most.
But it also offers a powerful leadership and client engagement reminder:
👉 People don’t remember every detail of what we say or do.
👉 They remember how we made them feel.
And more often than not, those feelings are shaped in the small, human moments:
- A genuine conversation
- A shared laugh
- A moment of presence without distraction
What the Latest Global Research Is Telling Us
The newly released 2026 Global Happiness Report reinforces this in a really powerful way.
While the report explores several factors influencing wellbeing, one theme stands out clearly:
The more our lives shift toward digital interaction, the more intentional we must be about real human connection.
Some of the findings are hard to ignore:
- Young people in countries like Australia, the US and UK are reporting declining levels of happiness.
- Higher levels of social media use are consistently linked to lower wellbeing… particularly when usage becomes passive or excessive.
- And perhaps most tellingly, many people report using social platforms not because they enjoy them…but because everyone else is there.
At the same time, the data shows something incredibly hopeful:
- Platforms and environments that facilitate genuine communication and connection are linked to higher wellbeing
- A sense of belonging and social connection has a significantly greater impact on happiness than reducing screen time alone
Which brings us back to something simple…but powerful:
Connection isn’t the problem. Disconnection is.
From Clients… to Teams
In our work across both client engagement and leadership development, we see this play out every day.
The strongest client relationships aren’t built on perfect processes or polished presentations.
They’re built on:
- Trust
- Understanding
- Consistency
- Shared experiences
And the same is true inside our teams.
Leaders who create environments where people feel:
- Seen
- Heard
- Valued
…are the ones who build high-performing, engaged teams.
Because at the core of both client relationships and leadership effectiveness is the same fundamental human need:
To feel connected.
The Leadership Opportunity Right Now
As leaders, advisers, and professionals, we’re navigating a world where:
- Digital noise is increasing
- Attention is fragmented
- And genuine connection is becoming rarer
Which means the opportunity to stand out has never been clearer.
Not by doing more.
But by connecting better.
That might look like:
- Taking the time to truly understand a client beyond their portfolio
- Creating space for meaningful conversations within your team
- Being more present in the moments that matter
Because in a world of constant communication, presence is what people remember.
Knowing What Connection Looks Like for Different People
One of the most important nuances here – especially in today’s multi-generational workforce and client base – is this:
Connection isn’t one-size-fits-all.
What feels meaningful to one person may not land the same way for another.
Understanding:
- Communication preferences
- Values
- Motivators
…is what allows us to connect in a way that actually resonates.
It’s something we’ll be diving into in our upcoming Multi-Generational Workforce Webinar, where we explore how to better engage, communicate and connect across different generations… both with clients and within teams.

Building This Capability as a Leader
This is also a core focus of our Leadership Excellence Program (LEP).
Because leadership today isn’t just about strategy or direction. It’s about:
- Building trust
- Strengthening relationships
- Creating environments where people can thrive
The leaders who invest in these capabilities are the ones who:
- Retain great people
- Build stronger cultures
- And ultimately deliver better outcomes for their clients

A Simple Reflection This Easter
As you head into the Easter break, I’d encourage you to reflect on one simple question:
Where could I create more meaningful connection… intentionally?
It might be:
- With a client
- With a team member
- Or even with the people around your own table
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do…
…is simply show up, be present, and share the moment.
I’ll be sharing more reflections from Vietnam in the coming weeks, but for now, I hope you enjoy a well-earned break, and the opportunity to reconnect in the moments that matter most.
